L’operar scelte richiede uno sguardo attento e critico. Tale sguardo si stratifica sulle esperienze vissute ma soprattutto, ritengo, sulla volontà inderogabile di non cedere alla tentazione del possibilismo. Tale volontà diviene ben presto necessità ponendo coloro che la esercitano su un crinale aspro e difficile, percorso questo che quasi sempre conduce alla solitudine.

Una giornata con Frie Leysen e Catia Gatelli, che discutono insieme e col pubblico le parole chiave di questo soggetto. Non é facile annunciare in anticipo ciò che non si é ancora fatto; ma perché poi dovrebbe essere facile?
...Appartiene alla sfera delle necessità, come nutrirsi, riscaldarsi, vestirsi, etc...
Su tali necessità operiamo costantemente delle scelte che forgiano la nostra esistenza.
L'ambito artistico non é differente, si impone come l'acqua e il pane, costituisce il nostro modo di vedere e di essere visti; si relaziona con la realtà e con il possibile-impossibile che noi, in primis siamo in grado di ipotizzare.
Si tratterà certamente di un incontro, di un dialogo dal quale emergeranno riflessioni e verranno poste questioni. Non sono certa che l'esperienza sia qualcosa che si possa trasmettere. Ma sono certa del bisogno di sperimentare costantemente modalità non ancora sondate, di relazione con gli spazi, con le persone, con le cose, per aprire varchi attraverso i quali poter scorgere la luce delle forme più radicali nell'arte, nel teatro, nella vita. / Catia Gatelli

Frie Leysen, direttrice teatrale ed artistica belga.
Ha fondato il centro artistico deSingel ad Anversa, che ha diretto dal 1980 al 1991. È stata inoltre la promotrice del festival Kunstenfestivaldesarts, che si tiene a maggio a Bruxelles. Lo ha diretto fino al 2006, portandolo ad essere una delle manifestazioni di arte contemporanea più rilevanti d'Europa. Dopo essersi dedicata al Meeting Points 5, festival condotto in diverse città arabe del Medio Oriente, è stata curatrice del Theater der Welt nel 2008-2010. Nel 2012 è stata nominata direttrice artistica della nuova sezione di teatro e arti performative all'interno del Berliner Festspiele. È stata inoltre direttrice teatrale del Wiener Festwochen nel 2013 e 2014. Nel 2003 ha ricevuto il Prijs voor Algemene Culturele Verdienste van de Vlaamse Gemeenschap (premio della comunità fiamminga per i meriti culturali) e nel 2007 il dottorato onorario dall'Università libera di Bruxelles (Université libre de Bruxelles - ULB). Nel 2014 ha vinto il Premio Erasmo.

Catia Gatelli, attrice e regista. Vive e lavora a Berlino.
Nel 2009 prende vita thauma da una già lunga e densa collaborazione tra Andrea Basti e Catia Gatelli, all’interno della compagnia Masque teatro. thauma si propone come luogo di collaborazione e confronto possibili, tra differenti identità artistiche.
Per tanto thauma non vuole nominarsi gruppo o compagnia, in quanto sono proprio i concetti di non appartenenza, di mancanza, di lontananza, ad interessare i fondatori di thauma. It is not easy to state in advance what has not been done yet, but why should it be easy?
…. It is one of our needs, such as eating, keeping warm, getting dressed, and so on ….
On such needs we constantly make choices that shape our existence.
The field of arts is not an exception: it turns out to be like water and bread, it is our way of seeing and being seen. It relates to reality and to the possible-impossible which we are first able to assume.
It will undoubtedly be a meeting, a dialogue during which which food for thought will be provided and issues will be raised. 
I am not sure that experience is something that can be conveyed.
But I am sure of the need to constantly experiment with unexplored ways to relate with spaces, people, things, to create holes through which we can see the light of the most radical forms of art, theatre, life.
Catia Gatelli

Frie Leysen, Belgian theatre and art director.
She founded the deSingel arts centre in Antwerp, which she directed from1980 to 1991. Furthermore, she promoted the Kunstenfestivaldesarts festival, which is held in May in Brussels. She directed it until 2006 und made it one of the most important contemporary art events throughout Europe. 
After focusing on Meeting Points 5, a festival taking place in several Arab cities in the Middle East, she was curator of Theater der Welt in 2008-2010. In 2012, she was appointed art director of the new section of theatre and performing arts within the Berliner Festspiele. Moreover, she was theatre director of the Wiener Festwochen in 2013 and 2014.
In 2003, she was awarded the Prijs voor Algemene Culturele Verdienste van de Vlaamse Gemeenschap (prize of the Flemish community for cultural merits) and, in 2007, the honorary doctorate from the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). In 2014, she won the Erasmus Prize. 

Catia Gatelli, actress and director. She lives and works in Berlin.
In 2009, thanks to a long and deep partnership between Andrea Basti and Catia Gatelli, thauma was set up within the Masque Teatro company. It is a place of possible collaboration and exchange of ideas between different artistic identities. That’s why thauma does not want to be called a group or a company, as its founders mainly care about the concepts of non-belonging, lack, distance. We do not have any headquarters.
